Opened headlights and added LED strip

Hi all!

I've been lurking here since I got my 2013 ATS this April and I've seen numerous posts that start out with someone wanting to add DRL LED strip inside their headlights (no, not talking about the fog/lower lights)... but unfortunately it seems like 10 pages in they usually just install some lower lights and call it a day.

I too bought an ATS that didn't have LEDs and after 6+ months of procrastinating I took them to a guy I know to have them installed. This guy does lots of headlights but had never seen a seal like the one on ours, though I don't think he's always working with the most recent cars. Heatgun did not help and he was stuck chiseling away at the seal an inch at a time. This was taking WAAAAAAY too long.

Long story short? I told him that breaking out the power tools wasn't going to scare me and that I didn't want to waste my time or his. He brought out his dremmel and the next thing you know the casing is open and we're installing the strips like you would on any other headlight (along with some RGB halos).

These are the strips I used from amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/White-Amber-Sw.../dp/B00NWB2LDS ) -- Per the reviews the white is super bright but the switchback lights are a little dim during the day. I see that there's a pair of morimotos that are like double/tripple the price -- I may look into these in the future.

It's hard to tell from the photos (the night shots), but the strips are gorgeous and since theyre thick (super tight fit in the case) you can clearly see the entire strip from the sides of the car. Will take some better shots tomorrow if this thread gets some interest.

In any case, for anyone thinking about doing it, it's most certainly doable, though the lights are a nightmare to get open like I mentioned. If anyone has any tricks/advice on these, or know what the sealing method uses or is even called, please let us know.

Hope this helps someone!
