Over the lst few years, I've been trying various approaches to cleaning off the carbon build up on my wife's ATS turbo's exhaust tips. So far, the most successful approach has been to clean with Brasso. It works, but the longer the build up is in place, the harder I had to rub. Almost three weeks ago I had my shoulder joint replaced and haven't been able clean the ATS. But over that time, as I saw the carbon buildup, I finally said I got to do something before things get too baked in. And for some miraculous reason, the idea of trying oven glass/ceramic top cleaner. The ratinale being that this stuff removes baked on carbon from the oven top, so why not from stainless steel. Amazingly, a little bit of this stuff on a napkin, easily removed the carbon buildup without having to "dig-in" and rub hard. Haven't found a way to truly prevent the buildup, but this approach is aces...
